Red Giant Movies acquires Mynaa Director Prabhu Solomon dares to think differently. One saw his expertise in Kokki, which gave a new lease of life to Karan. Lee and Laadam were not great money spinners, but were again plots based on quick-thinking persons. Prabhu's new action-love story Mynaa, produced by AGS Entertainment, seems to be on the same lines. The film is about the travails of a driver subjected to various hardships in the hilly terrains where he operates. Newcomers Vidharth and Amala Paul play the lead roles; Imaan is the music composer and Vairabalan the art director. Manoj Paramahamsa in 3 Idiots remakes Manoj Paramahamsa's brilliant camerawork in Eeram and Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (VTV) has redefined the meaning of camera work in Tamil cinema. Now the hotshot cinematographer is currently busy with Gautham Menon's quickie Nadunisi Naaygal. The latest buzz is that director Shankar has roped in Manoj for the Tamil and Telugu remakes of Bollywood blockbuster 3 Idiots. 'Shankar sir knows me right from my Eeram days. He was very happy with my work for Eeram. Initially, I was apprehensive to take on this project because of my commitment to Gautham sir. At a time when he could have signed up any top cinematographer, he chose to give me a break, that too trusting the words of one of his associates. So I really did not want to upset him or his film in anyway. But he understood my position and magnanimously let me work for 3 Idiots,' Manoj confirmed. 'What makes me really happy about this project is the fact that it will be over in six to eight months as the film is being planned as a summer release. Nadunisi Naaygal: Dark, raw and realistic Gautham Menon is currently busy with his quickie thriller Nadunisi Naaygal, which means midnight dogs! The director hopes to finish this project (starring Sameera Reddy and Gautham's assistant Veera in the lead roles) soon. The film is expected to show the series of events happening in a night and its duration will be 90 minutes. 'Nadunisi Naaygal will be a different Gautham Menon film—dark, raw and realistic. Initially, he gave us a one-line plot of the film when we were shooting for Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (VTV) mentioning he planned to shoot mostly during the nights and that a significant portion of the film would take place inside a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV),' cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa said to a leading English daily. 'The film deals with a weird subject (based on a real-life incident) and we didn't want it to be cinematic. We wanted the film to have a grainy look and feel very raw. I realise that most people here consider glossy visuals as better cinematography. I'm ready for the bouquets and brickbats. I'm sure my work will be noticed if the film succeeds; and if it doesn't work out, I know I'll be held accountable,' he added. Prasanna's Muran to begin on Sept 3 Cheran's Dream Theatres is all set to start their next production venture Muran. Cheran and Prasanna will play the lead roles in this big budget film which will also feature two newcomers as heroines and Jayaprakash in a prominent role. Rajjan Madhav, son of acclaimed Malayalam music composer Raveendran, will wield the megaphone. Rajjan Madhav has earlier worked as co-director with Mysskin in Anjaathaey, Nandhalala and Yudhan Sei. Rajjan's brother Sajjan Madhav will compose music for the film. Muran is about two contrasting characters and the events in their lives. Prasanna, who played a powerful role in Anjaathaey, will repeat the act in Muran. The film will go on floors on September 3 and will grace theatres in Jan 2011. Naran gives me ample scope: Aathi Film-maker Aathi of Silandi fame is back with an action thriller Naran. Choreographer Agnishwaran and actress Poorna play the lead roles. Interestingly, in this film, Poorna plays the role of a bubbly girl who is an ardent fan of Jyotika. Monica is the second heroine. Kanja Karuppu provides the comedy element while Shaman Mithru (former associate of Ravi K. Chandran and K.V. Anand) is the cameraman. The film is produced by Dinesh Karthi and music is composed by Dhina. Satish Kurasova is the editor. Now the director says Naran is a performance-oriented film and gives ample scope for his actors to showcase their acting prowess. 'I believe this is the first film where Poorna has a solo song picturised on her. In fact, Poorna's character undergoes a drastic change as the story proceeds. Also, Monica and Agnishwar have given their best shot in this film. Panchakshari is Panchamukhi in Tamil After her dubbed Tamil version of Arundhati hit the jackpot at the box office, Kollywood has witnessed a steady rise in the demand for reigning Tollywood actress Anushka's flicks in Tamil. The latest flick to follow the trend is her V. Samudra directed Telugu film Panchakshari, which will hit Kollywood screens soon. Produced by Nagarjuna's personal make up man Bommadevara Ramachandra Rao, Panchakshari is being dubbed in Tamil by S.P. Charan and producer Venugopal. It stars debutant Samrat as the hero. Rahman's CWG theme song launched Mozart of Madras A.R. Rahman's theme song for the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2010 was launched at a glittering ceremony in Delhi today. Earlier, the Group of Ministers (GoM) requested the composer to finetune the song before the opening ceremony and he did so. Touted as India's version of ‘Waka Waka' (official song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup), the song 'Oh yaaro, India bula liya' (Friends, India has called you) has been composed and sung by the double Oscar award winner. Rahman sang the song for around five minutes at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium today. 'I feel honoured to get this opportunity to compose the theme song for the mega-event. It was not an easy task. I started composing it six months ago and finished just last night,' Rahman said. Also present at the event were Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, her Haryana counterpart Bhupinder Singh Hooda and CWG Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi. The Games are to be held from October 3 to14 this year.

Bala weds Amritha Upcoming Tamil-Malayalam actor Bala married his fiancée, Idea Star Singer Amrita Suresh, in Chennai on August 27. The wedding ceremony took place according to Tamil Hindu wedding rituals at the famous Thiruvanmiyur Siva Temple around 12.30 p.m. A grand marriage reception will be held in Kochi on September 5 for their friends and colleagues in Kerala. Other than close relatives of the couple, director Roshan Andrews, actor Sankar, producer Jagadeesh Chandran and Suresh Gopi's wife Radhika attended the function. Many Malayalam actors could not turn up for the marriage ceremony as it was held in Chennai. The Bala-Amrita engagement took place last September at Taj Earth Hotel, Ernakulam. A regular viewer of Idea Star Singer, the actor fell in love with Amritha when she was a contestant in Idea Star Singer 2007. She accepted his proposal with the approval of her parents.

Mani Ratnam to get Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker Award Mani Ratnam will be honoured with Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker Award at the Venice Film Festival to be held in September. Announcing this at Cannes just before the launch of Mani Ratnam's Raavan, Venice Film Festival director Marco Muller said, 'Mani Ratnam is one of the greatest innovators in contemporary Indian Cinema. He helped introduce the auteur concept to contemporary Bollywood. We are very proud to honour the work of the great Indian director Mani Ratnam.' In addition to Mr. Mani Ratnam, Mrs. Suhasini Mani Ratnam and Mr. Vikram are attending the 67.Mostra Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica (67th Venice International Film Festival.) Prithviraj as Veluthampi Dalava Renowned Malayalam director Viji Thampi, known for his successful flims on historical characters, is now making a film based on the life of Velayudhan Chempakaraman Thampi, popularly known as Veluthampi Dalava, who was the Dalava (Prime Minister) of Travancore from 1802 to 1809. Prithviraj will enact the role of Veluthampi Dalava, one of the earliest Indian freedom fighters who revolted against British forces in the Indian subcontinent. This untitled film is produced by Renjith Rejaputra and scripted by Renji Paniker. The shooting will commence soon.

Venice awaits Mani Ratnam's arrival After Cannes, it's destination Venice for ace director Mani Ratnam, who will be honoured with the 'Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker Award' at the Venice Film Festival to be held from September 6, 2010. Mani Ratnam's latest offering Raavan (in Hindi) and Raavanan (in Tamil) will also be screened at the festival. Vikram, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai are expected to attend the event. Along with the award, the director will be presented with the precious Reverso Jaeger-LeCoultre watch (a unique model with a commemorative engraving). Ko shooting almost complete The shooting of K.V. Anand's Ko is almost complete. According to sources, 90% of the shoot is completed. Earlier, a breathtaking melody was shot at the beautiful locales of Kullu Manali featuring lead actors Jiiva and Karthika. Director K.V. Bale Pandiya coming on September 3 Bale Pandiya, directed by Siddharth of Mittra Media, is all set to grace theatres on September 3. The film stars Vishnu Vishal and Piaa Bajpai in the lead roles. 'In Bale Pandiya, I play a happy girl living with her grandfather. She falls in love with a boy who thinks he's a loser. We shot for three to four months. It's a good role. We were shooting on a yacht, and I wasn't used to the sea,' Piaa said. Debut music director Devan Ekambaram has composed music for the film. Tamannaah on 3 Idiots remake Earlier, there were reports that pretty lass Tamannaah will play the lead role in the Tamil remake of Bollywood blockbuster 3 Idiots.
