 Unable to see Tamil?

This site uses both Dynamic Fonts and Embedded Fonts technology. So, if you are using either Netscape or Internet Explorer, the tamil fonts should automatically appear in your screen.

For Mozilla, Opera, and other browsers, please follow this procedure:

  • download the font here,
  • install the font in your system,
  • change the font name under 'User defined' in your browser 'Preferences' to show this font.
Full details available below.

If Tamil fonts don't show up in Internet Explorer or Netscape

in Internet Explorer 4.0 or later versions:
Go to Tools menu and click 'Internet Options'. Then choose the 'Security' tab, Select the 'Default level' button, click 'Apply' and then click 'OK'. (And Refresh)

in Netscape 4.0 or later versions:
Go to Edit menu and click 'Preference'. Then choose 'Fonts' in 'Appearances'. Select 'Use document-specified fonts' and click 'OK' button, click 'Apply' and then click 'OK'. (And Reload)

Installing Downloaded Font:

The site now uses 'TABMalli' or 'TABInaiMathi' font. It can be downloaded here. Windows users needed to copy them in the 'Windows > Font' sub-directory for the fonts to display correctly.

Changing 'User defined' settings:

  • Go to Edit menu and click 'Preferences...'.
  • Click the + sign of 'Appearances' in left column.
  • Click 'Fonts' - The right side page shows font settings
  • Choose the 'User defined' in the drop down menu at the top.
  • Click the drop down menu next to Serif: and choose 'TABMalli' font. (Or any TAB font if you like)
  • Select the same font in the drop down menu next to SanSerif:
  • Click OK.
The procedure is for Mozilla. If you are using a different browser (other than IE or NN), you may already know how to change preferences and probably resent hand-holding like this!

Another Alternative:

Murasu
In case the dynamic fonts still not showing tamil with the above settings (then you must be using Internet Explorer !), you can still view the site in tamil with "Murasu Anjal 2000", which is needed to be running (minimised) in your computer. It can be downloaded from www.murasu.com. It is a 1.9MB file & will help in various other ways also. (You can type tamil text with english phonetic style, send & receive e-mails in Tamil, etc.).

Smoothening Fonts:

Here is a suggestion to improve quality of Dynamic font display in Internet Explorer in Windows
Open Display Properties (Right click on Desktop), goto Effect Tab and tick Smooth Edges of screen fonts checkbox.

Please have a look at our site profile in English, for an overview.      Or... Back to Home.
